At the beginning of September, I arrived (a bit lost) to Scotland for a three-month research stay at the University of Edinburgh. After a quick transition from summer in Barcelona to autumn in Edinburgh, I started a project and an experience that will surely mark my professional career.
Under the supervision of Dr Chiara Bonacchi, we have started a project that aims to analyse the biases of generative AI, specifically of the ChatGPT tool, when asked about contested heritage sites. We have selected three case studies that have the following criteria as a common thread: a) they are heritage sites located in Spanish-speaking countries 2) they are spaces linked to dictatorial regimes and with a deep political charge.
It has not been easy to specify the methodology for such a complicated subject, but in the end, we have opted for a qualitative approach through a semi-structured questionnaire. We will soon be able to tell you what the main conclusions are.
During the stay, I attended courses at the Data, Culture and Society centre (DCS) and Dr Bonacchi’s intensives, as well as discovering different corners of this beautiful country. It is with regret that I say goodbye to Edinburgh and with the hope of seeing it again under a snowy hand. Tapadh leibh for this opportunity!
